In June 2025, Fair Vote Canada representative Anna Keenan spoke to the Confederation of Canadian Unions (CCU) about proportional representation voting systems, and how they provide greater accountability, democratic decision making, and cooperation among political parties.
She contrasted it to Canada’s current electoral system – First Past the Post – which can provide parties a majority of seats without a majority of votes, causes greater divisions and policy drifts, and most importantly, lower participation and voter turnout.
