Carlo Fanelli is a professor at the Department of Social Science at York University in Toronto, Canada. He spoke to the Confederation of Canadian Unions (CCU) in October 2024 about the history of workers’ rights in Canada.
Carlo focused on the Keynesian post-war era and the move to neoliberalism since the 1980s. This led to consequences for working people, including wage stagnation, radically increasing income and wealth inequality, the corporate concentration of wealth, and underfunded social services and programs.
Carlo answered questions from the audience about the protection of workers’ rights and how working people and unions can fight back and build a more equitable and democratic future for working Canadians.
