On October 1 and 2, 2015, CCU President John Hanrahan and NSUPE member Tim Green traveled to Prince Edward Island to join the picket line of NSUPE Local 19. The following are messages sent to social media by the workers and CCU President John Hanrahan.

The Workers’ Message is Simple:
“We’re the employees at Canadian Blood Services (CBS) who put the needles in your arms and collect the blood needed to save patients’ lives. We are proud of our work and our role in the healthcare system. Unfortunately, we feel that we’ve been left no choice but to go on strike. The workers have been on strike since Labour Day. The main issue is guaranteed minimum hours of work.”
President Hanrahan’s Message for the Strikers:
“The fight against zero guaranteed hours is a huge issue for workers and unions in Canada and around the world. These kinds of unfair contracts force people into precarious work, lower living standards, and promote inequality. These kinds of unfair contracts are wrong, and you deserve better. Never let anyone tell you different. Keep up the struggle. We are proud of you.”
