Centre for Migrant Worker Rights Nova Scotia Founder and Director Stacey Gomez spoke to the Confederation of Canadian Unions (CCU) at its Labour School in Charlottetown about the struggles faced by migrant workers in Canada. These include discrimination, low pay, poor working conditions and constant threats by employers and the government of losing their work status in Canada.
Stacey brings a background in frontline service provision, grassroots organizing, advocacy, and communications to her role. She has supported survivors of sexual violence, coordinated anti-deportation campaigns to keep migrant families together, and fostered solidarity between communities in Guatemala and the Maritimes in the pursuit of justice. She has coordinated a national coalition advocating for Canadian policies in Latin America which are grounded in human rights.
Stacey holds an MA in Development Studies from York University and a Bachelor of Social Sciences in International Development and Globalization from University of Ottawa.
