CCU President John Hanrahan presents the CCU Charter to PPWC Local 8 President Gerald deJong
A month after Local 2 of the Pulp, Paper and Woodworkers of Canada voted to join the Confederation of Canadian Unions, Local 8 has voted unanimously to affiliate to the CCU.
Headquartered in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Local 8 has been a proud member of the PPWC since 1967 after breaking away from the International union. Representing more than 400 workers, it is comprised of five certifications, which include Harmac Pulp, Canexus Chemical, Long Hoh Sawmill, Western Forest Products Value Added Division and Ladysmith Sawmill.
“We are proud to welcome PPWC local 8 to the CCU family,” says CCU President John Hanrahan. “We look forward to working with them to secure a better future for all workers in Canada.”
