The CCU pauses on this day to remember and celebrate the contributions of women and female labour leaders and rank and file members who have struggled, and continue to struggle, for equality, human rights and social justice here in Canada and around the world.
In keeping with the tradition of Madeline Parent, the first president of the CCU and a founding member of the National Action Committee on the Status of Women, the CCU continues to call for full economic and social gender equality in Canada and internationally.
Unfortunately there is still much to be done to achieve this worthy goal. We ask all the readers of this article to reflect on the past victories and future challenges in the movement for the rights of women. Yet reflection and celebration are not enough. We must act. We call on you to take action for gender equality now by supporting the two campaigns below.
